Selangor is set to implement a new Smart Intelligent Parking (SIP) system starting August 1, moving towards a win-win solution for parking management. This new approach involves a tripartite collaboration between local authorities (PBTs), Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) through its subsidiary Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd, and appointed concessionaires.
The decision was finalized after several State Executive Council Meetings. Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd will coordinate the system, providing technical reporting. Concessionaires will invest RM200 million in smart parking infrastructure, including 1,800 CCTV cameras in the first phase's four participating PBTs.
While concessionaires will handle system maintenance and staff salaries, enforcement, including issuing compound notices, remains under the PBTs' jurisdiction. PBTs are not expected to bear operating costs and anticipate higher collections from this new system.
