US President Donald Trump announced yesterday a trade pact with Indonesia to avoid steeper tariffs, finalized after discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Under the agreement:

Indonesian goods entering the US will face a 19% tariff, significantly lower than the previously threatened 32%.Indonesia committed to purchasing US$15 billion in US energy, US$4.5 billion in American agricultural products, and 50 Boeing jets (many being 777s).US exports to Indonesia will reportedly be tariff and non-tariff barrier-free, and the deal includes provisions to prevent transshipment from higher-tariff countries.

This pact is one of a few deals Trump's administration has secured, alongside agreements with Britain and Vietnam, as countries negotiate to avoid higher US levies set to take effect on August 1. Trump also indicated that other deals are in progress with countries like India and the European Union.
