President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Coca-Cola has agreed to use real cane sugar in its US production, replacing high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). While Trump praised this as a "very good move," Coca-Cola has not explicitly confirmed a full ingredient shift, stating only that they "appreciate President Trump's enthusiasm" and will share details on "new innovative offerings" soon.

HFCS became popular in the 1970s due to government subsidies for corn and high tariffs on cane sugar. A shift back to cane sugar could face backlash from the Corn Belt, a region supportive of Trump. While both HFCS and cane sugar (sucrose) are composed of fructose and glucose and show similar health impacts when consumed at equal calorie levels, Mexican Coke, made with cane sugar, is often sold at a premium in the US due to its perceived "natural" flavor. Trump's preferred Diet Coke uses aspartame.
