Former PKR Sarawak member Voon Shiak Ni suggests that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg deserves national attention as a potential candidate for Malaysia's next Prime Minister.

Voon, who left PKR in 2020, criticized the "intellectually lazy" notion that only peninsula-based politicians are qualified. She asserts that Abang Johari has demonstrated statesmanship, visionary governance, political stability, and a technocratic, pragmatic approach since taking office in 2017. His ability to balance state and national interests, she argues, uniquely positions him to navigate complex federal dynamics.

Voon concluded that national leadership should be based on merit, not geography or political allegiance, and that leaders like Abang Johari should be part of the national conversation.
