Malaysia and New Zealand Eye Stronger Disaster Management Cooperation
Malaysia and New Zealand are set to enhance cooperation in disaster management following Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's visit to New Zealand's National Crisis Management Centre (Beehive Bunker) today.
Ahmad Zahid, who chairs Malaysia's Central Disaster Management Committee, stated the visit aims to expand strategic collaboration, including information sharing, education, and disaster safety training, along with rescue simulations and logistics management for disaster victims.
He welcomed progress on a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Malaysia's National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and New Zealand's National Emergency Management Agency. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that this effort will lead to more coordinated and effective cooperation for regional safety and preparedness.
Ahmad Zahid concludes his five-day working visit to New Zealand tomorrow, July 18. He highlighted that while the two nations have broad cooperation, disaster management holds significant potential for bilateral enhancement.
