Kelantan Government to Strengthen Syariah Law Against LGBT Practices

The Kelantan government is committed to strengthening the Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019 (EKJS) to curb LGBT practices and immoral activities. Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan stated that despite legal challenges, they aim to enhance the law and its enforcement.

He emphasized that EKJS 2019 targets syariah offenses like sodomy and musahaqah (same-sex relations between women), as the state does not recognize "deviant cultures" that contradict Islamic teachings.

A special committee, involving various agencies including the police and religious departments, has been formed to coordinate efforts against moral decay. The state has also implemented the *Rabbani Community Culture Programme* to promote Islamic understanding and build community resilience.

Mohamed Fadzli urged the federal government to restrict online platforms promoting immoral content, stressing the need to regulate the digital space to protect societal morals. This commitment follows a recent police raid on an LGBT-related gathering in mid-June where condoms and HIV medication were found.
