Mutiara Line LRT Construction Begins in Penang
Construction for the Mutiara Line LRT project in Penang officially started on July 15, 2025, following a notice to proceed issued by MRT Corporation (MRTC) to the main civil contractor, SRS Consortium Sdn Bhd.
According to Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, initial works will include utility relocation, road widening, piling, and site preparation along the approved alignment. The state is awaiting tender results for the CMC2 package (Macallum to Penang Sentral) and the rail systems package.
A strategic communication platform and feedback channel will be established for the public to access project information and engage with the authorities. The project is expected to be completed by 2031, and the Chief Minister has requested public cooperation.
