SEOUL — Heavy rains pounded South Korea for a fourth straight day on Saturday, leaving four dead, two missing, and nearly 3,000 people still unable to return home, authorities said.
Since Wednesday, record rainfall of over 500mm hit Seosan in South Chungcheong province, flooding farms and buildings, with cows seen struggling to stay above water. More than 7,000 people were evacuated at the peak, with 2,816 still displaced as of Saturday morning.
Over 641 buildings, 388 roads, and 59 farms have been damaged, the interior ministry reported. Weather officials warned of more rain through Monday, with continued risk of landslides and flooding.
Neighbouring North Korea is also expected to see up to 300mm of rain in some areas from Sunday to Tuesday, state media said.
