JOHOR BAHRU — Long queues hit KLIA Terminals 1 & 2 and Johor Bahru’s Sultan Iskandar and Sultan Abu Bakar checkpoints this weekend as autogates failed nationwide, affecting tens of thousands of foreign visitors.
Authorities said the glitch, which began yesterday and impacted around 200 autogates, is under investigation for possible sabotage or hacking. Currently, only Malaysian passports can use autogates, with manual checks deployed for others.
Rela personnel and contra lanes were activated at Johor land checkpoints to ease congestion from the surge of Singaporean weekend travellers.
Malaysia, which extended autogate access to visitors from 63 countries in June and introduced QR code entry earlier this year, is still working to restore the system.
