World cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez will be out indefinitely after undergoing shoulder surgery, his promoters announced Sunday. The 34-year-old Mexican southpaw, who suffered the injury during his June 28 win over ex-champion Yuniel Dorticos, said he chose surgery after medical advice to ensure full recovery.
“This was the right call for my health and career. I’ll come back stronger and hungrier,” said Ramirez, who holds WBA and WBO titles with a 47–1 record. He has already begun therapy and will return once cleared by doctors.
