Scottie Scheffler downplayed comparisons to Tiger Woods after clinching his first British Open and fourth major on Sunday, calling them “silly.” The world No.1, now just a U.S. Open win away from a career Grand Slam, said: “Tiger won 15 majors, I’ve got four. He stands alone in golf.”
Scheffler’s dominant four-shot victory at Royal Portrush, his fourth win in 11 starts, included bouncing back from a rare double bogey with poise. Despite his success, he reflected: “Winning doesn’t fulfill the deepest desires of my heart. There’s more to life than golf.”
The 28-year-old celebrated with his wife and son, cherishing his childhood dream of lifting the Claret Jug. “I felt at peace and in control today, even after the hiccup on eight. I’m proud of how I hung in mentally and played great golf,” he said.
