The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has urged the government to officially gazette the newly announced September 15 public holiday to provide legal clarity for employers. The group highlighted uncertainty over whether the holiday falls under Section 8 or 9 of the Holidays Act 1951, which affects obligations under the Employment Act 1955.
FMM warned that unplanned holidays could disrupt operations, especially for shift-based industries, and create ripple effects across supply chains. They advised businesses to prepare buffer stock, adjust schedules, and stay updated on the gazette. FMM stressed that clear, consistent, and credible policy announcements are essential to maintain investor confidence.
