Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced that a Cabinet memorandum has been prepared to tackle the healthcare staffing shortage, aiming to fill 4,352 positions as highlighted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking in Papar, Dzulkefly affirmed his commitment to fast-track the absorption of contract staff into permanent roles and address the maldistribution of personnel across the sector.
He noted that while appointments fall under the Public Service Department (JPA) and Public Services Commission (SPA), he is confident in their cooperation. The ministry also aims to uphold a 42-hour work week for nurses, house officers, and medical officers to help boost morale.
