Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in the UK today to sign a major trade agreement with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expected to boost the UK economy by £4.8 billion annually. The deal will reduce tariffs on UK exports like whisky and medical devices to India, and on Indian goods like clothing and seafood to the UK.

Modi will also meet King Charles III during his short visit — his fourth since taking office in 2014. Talks are likely to cover the recent Air India plane crash, which killed 241 people including 52 Britons, with concerns over mishandled remains raised by victims' families.

Starmer is also under pressure to address the case of Scottish Sikh activist Jagtar Singh Johal, jailed in India since 2017 without conviction. This visit follows recent meetings between the two leaders at the G7 and G20 summits.
