Indonesia has dismissed concerns about risks to personal data following a new trade deal with the US, which includes lowered tariffs on Indonesian goods—from 32% to 19%—and agreements on digital trade and data transfer.

Critics warn that sending data overseas could worsen data protection issues, but the government insists transfers will be handled securely and under strict supervision, in line with national law. The deal also includes Jakarta’s commitment to purchase 50 Boeing jets.
