A married couple, Wan Muhamad Aziem Ashraf, 31, and Wan Matraf Azlinda, 49, were charged in the Kuala Krai Magistrates’ Court for allegedly trafficking 67.75kg of cannabis and possessing 15.1g of methamphetamine on July 11 at Padang Sembilan.

No plea was recorded, as the trafficking charge under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 falls under High Court jurisdiction. If convicted, they face the death penalty or life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 strokes.

They were also charged under Section 12(2) for drug possession, which carries up to five years’ jail and nine strokes. The court set September 23 for mention and chemistry report submission.
