Authorities in Sabah have seized a massive cache of 936 fighting cocks, believed to be imported from the Philippines, during a raid in Kampung Kambizaan, Papar, on July 25. The operation, led by the Wildlife Crime Bureau, targeted an illegal cockfighting operation.
Three men—a Malaysian, an Indonesian, and a Filipino—were arrested and are being investigated under local animal import laws. Seized items included vitamins, syringes, and over 100 bird-tagging rings, indicating the birds were being prepared for organized fights.
The RM4.68 million seizure is one of the largest of its kind in Sabah this year. Authorities suspect the site was used to rear birds for underground betting syndicates. This raid is part of Operasi Bersepadu Khazanah (OBK), an initiative to curb wildlife crime and smuggling. So far this year, PDRM has conducted 179 raids nationwide, leading to 314 arrests. Police plan to continue these intelligence-led operations to protect public safety and wildlife.
