Police Bust Loan Shark Syndicate in Kelantan

Kelantan police have arrested five suspects believed to be involved in illegal moneylending activities, including threats and acts of mischief like splashing red paint on borrowers' homes. The suspects, aged 25 to 39, were apprehended in separate raids under Op Vulture.

The first arrest was made on July 23 in Pasir Tumboh, while the remaining four were detained on July 25 after a red paint incident in Pasir Hor. Police seized 34 items, including red paint, threatening notes, and mobile phones, believed to be used in these activities.

Preliminary investigations link the suspects to at least nine cases of property damage in Kota Bharu, Tumpat, and Tanah Merah, involving actions such as breaking windows, posting threats, and padlocking gates. The case is being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Sections 427/506 of the Penal Code. All suspects have been remanded for further investigation.
