RM10 Million Cannabis Haul in Kelantan

The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) in Kelantan successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 102.178 kilograms of cannabis flowers, valued at over RM10 million, at the Rantau Panjang Free Duty Zone on April 23.

According to Kelantan Customs director Wan Jamal Abdul Salam Wan Long, the operation involved multiple seizures. The first occurred at Gate 1 of the duty-free zone, where officers found 88 packets of suspected cannabis in three bags. Shortly after, a female motorcyclist was intercepted carrying a bag with 32 similar packets.

Further investigation led Customs to the Rantau Panjang Express Bus Stop, where a man and a woman were arrested with two additional bags containing 60 packets of cannabis flowers. In total, six bags containing 180 packets were seized.

The syndicate's modus operandi involved smuggling cannabis through illegal bases along Sungai Golok before bringing it into the duty-free zone. All arrested suspects are local individuals aged between 30 and 45. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
