No Business Licenses for Foreigners, Says Local Government Minister
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming stated today that local authorities (PBT) have never permitted foreign nationals to apply for or hold hawker, small trader, or business premises licenses. This policy aligns with existing hawker and trade by-laws.
Responding to a question in the Dewan Rakyat, Nga emphasized that PBT also do not allow the employment of foreign nationals as workers or assistants under hawker licenses. He reiterated the government's commitment to supporting Malaysian business owners with subsidized rental rates, preventing misuse by foreigners.
Nga concluded by using the Malay proverb, "kera di hutan disusukan, anak di rumah mati kelaparan," to highlight that the government prioritizes its own citizens.
