Human Resources Minister Steven Sim announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will significantly reshape Malaysia's job market, potentially creating hundreds of thousands of new opportunities. A ministry study identified over 60 emerging job roles, with 70% in the AI and technology sector.
While the study indicated 600,000 existing jobs are "at risk" due to AI, Sim clarified this means they'll be impacted or require upskilling/reskilling, not necessarily lost. He stressed the need for workers to "move from worry to strategy" by equipping themselves with relevant skills.
Sim highlighted the importance of both high-level AI skills (managing/creating AI) and broad AI literacy (basic understanding and use of AI tools for everyone). The ministry's MyMahir portal will help match new skill requirements with training courses. He also emphasized that AI development must consider ethical and legal implications.
