Top seed Coco Gauff battled past fellow American Danielle Collins in a tense second-round clash at the Omnium Banque Nationale in Montreal, winning 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (2). Despite hitting 23 double faults, Gauff secured the win with a clutch ace on match point and advanced to face Veronika Kudermetova next.Earlier, Japan’s Aoi Ito pulled off a major upset over No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini, coming from a set and break down to win 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5). It marked only her second tour-level win this season.

Canada's Leylah Fernandez suffered a 6-4, 6-1 first-round loss to Maya Joint, just a week after beating her in Washington.
