Foreign Spousal Entry Permit Approvals Fair and Balanced, Says Home Minister

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that entry permit approvals for foreign spouses of Malaysians are based on fair and balanced considerations, irrespective of gender. He clarified that obtaining an entry permit is a prerequisite for a MyPR (Permanent Resident) application.

Responding to Syerleena Abdul Rashid's (PH–Bukit Bendera) concern about alleged unfair burdens on Malaysian women with foreign spouses, Saifuddin explained that entry permit issuance aligns with Section 10(1) and (2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, granting the Director-General of Immigration authority based on set conditions and procedures.

Between 2013 and 2023, approval rates for wives of citizens were 22.3% and for husbands, 22.7%, showing no significant difference. Saifuddin emphasized that each application is assessed fairly and equitably, with factors like welfare and neglect considered for citizens' wives.
