KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating whether elements of bullying were involved in the deaths of two private college students in separate incidents within 24 hours at a condominium in Taman Melati on Wednesday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that the cases are being investigated under Section 507B of the Penal Code for bullying.
"For both cases, the police have opened investigations under Section 507B to determine whether there is any link to bullying offences, online or offline, that may be related to this SDR (sudden death reports) incident.
"So far, the investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to gather all evidence, including awaiting the full post-mortem report," he said.
Fadil confirmed that both victims, who died on Aug 20, were enrolled in the same private college.
In the first incident at 6.48am, a 22-year-old woman fell from the 22nd floor and was found on the eighth floor of the condominium.
The second incident occurred at 9.35pm at the same condominium, involving a 21-year-old man who fell from the 35th floor.
Fadil added that the male victim was found at the rear of one of the blocks in the condominium.
"Based on the post-mortems conducted at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, the cause of death for both victims was confirmed as multiple injuries from falling from a height.
"Investigations at the scene found no criminal elements, and the deaths have been classified as SDR.
"However, we will still investigate the case under Section 507B of the Penal Code," he said.
Fadil added that the investigation papers will be completed as soon as possible, taking into account all factors related to both cases.
