KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore captain Safuwan Baharudin is looking at the bigger picture as he prepares to lead his teammates against bitter neighbours Malaysia in the Causeway derby at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.

The seasoned veteran said pride will be a factor and the team that want the win more will triumph.

The Lions have the upper hand over Harimau Malaya with two wins, two draws and a defeat in their last five meetings.

The versatile Safuwan added that the friendly will serve as a warm-up for his team before facing India in the 2027 Asia Cup qualifiers in October.

"Malaysia and Singapore usually play each other in competitions and not in international friendlies so this is something different. It's all about pride. If you look at the last few editions of the Causeway derby, whoever wants it more will win.

"We are here for a purpose. We want to put ourselves in the best position possible for the Asian Cup qualifiers."

Singapore's interim coach Gavin Lee said they will use the friendly against Malaysia to prepare themselves for the match against India.

"I think it is important to remind ourselves what our aim is. It's about bringing everybody on the same page. The players are enjoying the atmosphere and the environment. They're working hard but they're also having fun," he said.
