Meta is under fire after former and current researchers testified to Congress, accusing the tech giant of burying internal studies that exposed serious child safety risks on its virtual reality platforms. According to six whistleblowers, Meta’s legal team allegedly reviewed, edited, and even blocked critical research to avoid further scrutiny following its 2021 grilling by lawmakers. The goal, they claim, was to create "plausible deniability" about the harmful impact of VR products particularly on young users. Despite its VR division losing money, Meta remains a dominant player in the industry through its popular Quest devices, including the new Quest 3. The revelations raise fresh concerns about the company’s commitment to user safety, especially for children.
