In Addis Ababa, more Ethiopians like Kemeriya Mehammed Abduraheman are embracing electric vehicles (EVs), joining a growing wave of over 100,000 who have made the green switch. Although Africa’s EV sales made up just 1% of the global market in 2024, Ethiopia is determined to boost this number and lead the continent’s transition to cleaner transportation. The country is preparing infrastructure and policies to support EV adoption, aiming to reduce pollution and dependence on fossil fuels. With increasing awareness and government backing, Ethiopia’s dream of an electric future is starting to take shape signaling a shift that could reshape mobility across Africa.
