South Korea has asked the U.S. to allow hundreds of detained Korean workers to leave the country quickly and without physical restraints following an immigration raid at a Hyundai construction site in Georgia. During a White House meeting, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun urged U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for “special attention” to ensure the workers who are not criminals are freed without handcuffs. Around 300 South Koreans were arrested alongside 175 others at the $4.3 billion Hyundai and LG Energy Solution battery project. The plea highlights diplomatic efforts to treat detained workers with dignity amid ongoing immigration enforcement.
