Union Saint-Gilloise marked their first-ever Champions League appearance with a stunning 3-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven. The Belgian champions, who ended a 90-year league title drought last season, took an early lead through Promise David’s penalty after Ricardo Pepi was fouled in the box. Anouar Ait El Hadj doubled the advantage with a brilliant solo strike before Kevin Mac Allister sealed the win with a late goal. PSV managed a consolation from Ruben van Bommel in stoppage time but suffered a second heavy European setback after last season’s 7-1 defeat by Arsenal. Union now prepare to host Newcastle on 1 October, while PSV face Bayer Leverkusen.
