The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has raised alarm over a growing exodus of doctors driven by stalled career progression, low pay, and toxic workplace environments. MMA president Datuk Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo emphasized that these internal "push factors" are the primary reasons doctors are leaving, rather than external recruitment by other countries like Singapore. Key issues include inadequate on-call allowances, unclear career pathways, and unhealthy work cultures that make staying in the Malaysian healthcare system unattractive. The MMA urges authorities to focus on improving these conditions to retain medical talent and prevent further brain drain, highlighting the urgent need for reforms to support doctors’ professional growth and well-being.
