A private interpreter in Taiping lost RM572,130 after falling victim to a cryptocurrency investment scam operated by an online syndicate. The 40-something victim was contacted in August by an individual claiming to be a Chinese national named "Yang Yuting" via Instagram, before continuing their conversations on WhatsApp. The suspect promised high returns of 20% from an unnamed cryptocurrency investment, convincing the victim to part with the money. Taiping police have launched an investigation into the case, highlighting the growing prevalence of crypto-related fraud and urging the public to exercise caution in online investment opportunities.
