SINGAPORE — Singapore’s largest taxi operator, ComfortDelGro (CDG), is set to begin cross-border taxi services to Johor Bahru later this month, offering commuters a more convenient option for travel between the neighbouring countries.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, CDG announced that fares will be fixed at S$80 (RM262) for rides from Singapore to Johor Bahru’s Larkin Terminal.

Meanwhile, pick-ups from Ban San Street taxi stand and Singapore Changi Airport will be priced at S$60 and S$120, respectively.

A spokesman for CDG told The Straits Times that 90 licensed cross-border cabbies will be available for the service, which can be booked up to 24 hours in advance.

“We recognise the growing demand for cross-border transportation and are committed to expanding our travel options for passengers, as well as more earning opportunities for our cabbies,” the spokesman reportedly said.

Bookings can be made via the CDG hotline at 6552 1111.

The move comes shortly after Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) acknowledged that the existing cross-border taxi scheme “can be improved”, in a Facebook post on September 2.

The authority recognised strong demand from Singaporeans travelling to Malaysia that current services were unable to meet.

LTA also assured that enforcement against foreign vehicles that violate the law will continue.

“Our shared goal is to provide safe and legal options for Singaporean commuters,” the authority said.
