KUALA LUMPUR — Almost three decades after rising to fame as one of the most iconic girl groups of the 1990s, Elite proved their star power remains unshaken when they delivered an electrifying performance at the Elite Live’25 Concert at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), on Saturday night.
More than 2,000 fans filled the hall, cheering loudly to see Azza Zawari, Sasha Saidin, Abby Abadi, Linda Rafar, and Watie Sadali reunited as the original five members, shaking the stage with an energetic performance.
With powerful vocals, agile dance moves, and natural chemistry, Elite reminded everyone of the charm that continues to captivate both longtime supporters and a new generation of fans.
The concert kicked off with a lively medley of La Diva, Merbahaya and Aku Siapa Kau Di Apa, instantly igniting the atmosphere. After the opening numbers, Linda greeted the crowd with a heartfelt, “Apa khabar Malaysia”, drawing thunderous applause.
Watie light-heartedly joked that performing the first three songs was enough to leave them “breathless.” Despite not feeling well, Abby still took the stage, demonstrating unwavering dedication to their fans.
Watie, who is the wife of comedian Joey Daud, described the concert as a dream come true, admitting she never thought they would have the chance to perform together on such a grand scale again.
“Thank you for continuing to support us. Some even came all the way from Singapore and Brunei... we truly appreciate it. After more than 20 years apart, our dream of reuniting has finally come true.
“We all have our own lives now...Sasha is based in Dubai, Azza runs her cake business, Linda is focused on her family, while Abby is actively building her brand on TikTok through live sessions every morning.
“So to be back together on stage tonight is simply incredible,” Watie shared, drawing laughter with her playful tone.
The group’s candid banter and spontaneous teasing, much like “mothers gossiping”, kept the audience entertained, blending light-hearted chatter with laughter and cheers.
Throughout the night, Elite delighted fans with 15 songs, including evergreen hits such as G.I.G, Trauma, Tamparan Wanita and Bila.
The energy soared when the Alpha group joined them for a special duet, Di Pintu Syurga, followed by crowd favourites Mona Lisa and P. Ramlee & Saloma.
Adding to the nostalgia, X-Factor also took the stage with stylish performances of Bertuah and 7251364, further heightening the excitement of the evening.
Elite also revisited their roots with Catwalk, from their debut album, and performed Selamat Tinggal Teman, a song recorded before Abby’s departure in 1999, moments that transported fans back in time.
The night reached its peak as Elite closed with their signature hit Manisnya Senyumanmu, a powerful reminder of their legacy as one of Malaysia’s most influential female groups of the 1990s.
