KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat- Shevon Lai halted a streak of early-round defeats by reaching the quarter-finals of the Korea Open in Suwon today.
World No. 8 Soon Huat-Shevon secured a convincing 21-16, 21-13 win over world No. 25 Gao Jia Xuan and Wu Meng Ying in their first-ever meeting against the Chinese pair in the round of 16.
Prior to the tournament, the independent pair had lost in the first round of the China Open in July, before falling in the round of 16 at the Paris World Championships, the Hong Kong Open and the China Masters.
