SINGAPORE — Singapore police escorted a 66-year-old man accused of murdering his neighbour back to the scene of the alleged crime in Yishun.
Koh Ah Hwee is charged with killing 30-year-old Vietnamese national Nguyen Phuong Tra outside a sixth-floor unit at Block 323 Yishun Central on September 24, according to the Straits Times.
Koh arrived at the block in a black van around 10am on October 6, accompanied by several plainclothes officers.
He wore a red top and blue shorts and was restrained as officers led him to his fifth-floor unit before taking him to the sixth-floor corridor where the attack allegedly occurred. He left the scene at about 11.25am.
Residents said the victim and her husband had lived in the sixth-floor unit for about two years with their two children.
Authorities believe Koh attacked the couple with a knife following a dispute over noise.
Nguyen’s husband, 33, sustained serious injuries while allegedly trying to stop Koh.All three were taken to hospital, where Nguyen later died.
Photos taken at the time showed a bloodstained corridor and neighbours assisting the victims.
Police charged Koh on September 25.
The Ministry of Law and Ministry of National Development said in a joint statement on September 27 that Nguyen had applied for mediation with her neighbour in June.
The mediation did not proceed because Koh did not respond.
Singapore government agencies received an average of 2,500 noise complaints per month in the first half of 2025.
The ministries said the government aims to “facilitate dialogue and communication between neighbours as far as possible”.
Residents are encouraged to resolve disputes through conversation, grassroots leaders, or mediation at the Community Mediation Centre (CMC).
The CMC has an 80 per cent success rate for cases that proceed to mediation.
From January to August, 1,106 cases were registered at the CMC, but only 166 were mediated.
Of those, 129 resulted in a settlement.
