KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has stressed that the FA of Malaysia (FAM) should be allowed to complete their appeal process with FIFA before any other action is taken.

Yeoh said she understands the concern among football fans and stakeholders regarding the issue.

Prominent sports analyst Datuk Dr Pekan Ramli yesterday suggested that an independent investigation commission should be set up to get to the bottom of the issue.

"There are many suggestions being thrown about, if you look at social media, it's never ending," said Yeoh today.

"Everyone has their own ideas because football is a very popular sport. It's not possible for me to go through these suggestions one by one.

"I know a lot of people want immediate action but I believe that we should go stage by stage. Let the appeal process be concluded first.

"Once that is done, then we can look at other things, such as an investigation or at means of improvement.

"If we begin an investigation without concluding the appeal process, it would be akin to jumping the gun.

"I know everyone has good intent and wants Malaysia to clear its name and also be progressive but I hope everyone will remain calm for now. Let FAM complete the appeal process, then we will discuss (further action)," said Yeoh after officiating the final Sepak Takraw League training clinic at the Malaysia Sepak Takraw Academy in Kuala Lumpur.

FIFA said FAM and seven players had used forged documents to enable them to receive heritage status and be eligible for the national team.
