KUALA LUMPUR: Defending champions Terengganu will face Pahang in the men's Razak Cup final.
Terengganu outplayed Melaka 5-1 in the semi-finals at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today while Pahang, gunning for their first ever title, beat Armed Forces 3-1.
Pahang, unbeaten in six matches, will start as the favourites against Terengganu in the final.
Veteran Faizal Saari scored in the 10th and 37th minutes while Adam Haiqal Abdul Razak (27th) and Darwisy Hamdan (30th, 52nd) scored for Terengganu.
Asyraf Ishak replied for Melaka in the 34th minute.
Pahang scored their goals through Nor Syakir Hafiz (22nd), Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel Suzaini (23rd), and Alief Adha Akhbar (42nd). Sufian Marsom replied for Armed Forces in the 33rd minute.
Pahang coach Sufian Mohamed praised his players for putting up a good game to get the better of the hard-hitting Army team.
"My players are in high spirits and I know my players will rise to the occasion tomorrow to win the elusive title.
"We have qualified for the final four times in 2021, 2022, 2023 and this year, and we hope to finally win the title.
"We just need to stay focused and make use of our chances well in the final," said Sufian.
Meanwhile, the women's final tomorrow will pit defending champions Young Tigresses against Selangor
Young Tigresses, who will feature in the Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile from Dec 1-13, beat Pahang 3-1 in a penalty shootout after both teams failed to break the 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Selangor were too strong for Melaka, winning 4-0 in the other semi-final.
