LIPIS: A back injury did not stop fitness enthusiast K. Jey Prabakaran Thevar from making history by achieving a hat-trick of records in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) yesterday.
The 28-year-old completed 3,000 repetitions each of jumping jacks, leg extensions and squats during the National Sports Day celebration at Dataran Orang Kaya Haji in Kuala Lipis.
The Lipis-born endurance athlete already holds the world, Asian and Malaysian records for the longest non-stop cardio workout session.
Jey Prabakaran said he overcame a back injury to complete the gruelling endurance challenges within 24 hours.
"I have been preparing for about 10 months, focusing on building leg strength to sustain all three routines. I set myself an extremely strict diet, avoiding sugar and salt.
"Pushing too hard during training sessions caused my back injury last week, but I decided the show must go on as this was going to be a big moment for me.
"This record is not just about endurance, but reflects the power of consistency, mindset and faith," he said today.
He completed 3,000 leg extensions and 3,000 squats in under five hours on Friday, followed by 3,000 jumping jacks within three hours yesterday.
Jey Prabakaran, who received the three MBOR certificates yesterday, thanked Pahang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal and state Youth and Sports Department director Nor Azli Mohamad Daud for their continuous support.
He said his achievement was made even more special when he had the opportunity to meet Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during the National Sports Day carnival here today.
"The sultan offered words of encouragement and inspired me to keep pushing forward to make Pahang proud."
On his next goal, Jey Prabakaran said he aims to surpass his 15-hour Guinness World Record for non-stop exercise routines achieved in October last year.
