SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — The 14-year-old student suspected of stabbing a 16-year-old schoolmate to death at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, purchased his weapons online, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed today.
Shazeli said investigations are ongoing to determine the specific online platform used for the knife and karambit purchases.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect had purchased the items online,” he said during a press conference here.
When asked when the suspect made the purchases, Shazeli said, “Some time ago.”
He added that the suspect’s actions are believed to have been driven by emotional factors and social media influence.
However, Shazeli noted that the suspect and the 16-year-old victim had no prior relationship or interactions before the incident.
“The victim was found in the toilet, and based on our current investigation, we believe the suspect had followed her inside,” he said.
Shazeli confirmed the victim died from multiple stabs to the chest and neck.
He said police cannot yet confirm the state of the suspect’s mental health, but further screening will be conducted as the investigation progresses.
Police also revealed that the suspect had previously shown his knife in class.
“After the incident, the suspect panicked and wandered around the school compound before being apprehended by teachers and fellow students,” he said.
Shazeli said the suspect has been remanded for seven days, from today until October 21.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
