KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — A coalition of Malaysian civil society and political groups have planned a public protest titled “Trump You’re Not Welcome in Malaysia” on October 26 at Ampang Park here.
The demonstration, scheduled from 9am to 12pm, appears to be aimed at voicing opposition to US president Donald Trump who is set visit Kuala Lumpur on the same day to attend the 47th Asean Summit.
According to promotional materials shared on the BDS Malaysia's Instagram page, the rally is backed by more than 20 participating organisations including Muda, Pejuang, Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM), and the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim).
The organisers also released a “Legal Info Toolkit” informing participants of their rights if they are questioned, arrested, or required to give a statement to the police — including their right to legal counsel and to refuse to answer self-incriminating questions.
The advisory urges also demonstrators to remain calm if detained, contact a designated legal hotline for assistance, and avoid signing blank police statements.
The protest comes amid criticism of Trump’s policies and statements towards Palestine and the Middle East.
