KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul today rejected a motion to debate the recent stabbing incident at a secondary school in Bandar Utama.
In a written reply to Kampar MP Chong Zhemin, Johari said the matter had already been addressed by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek during the Ministers’ Question Time last Thursday.
“Therefore, in accordance with Standing Order 18(7)(b), I hereby reject the Honourable Member’s motion in chambers,” he said.
Last Wednesday, several media outlets reported that Chong had submitted the motion, citing growing public concern over student safety in schools.
He also pointed to Education director-general Mohd Azam Ahmad’s “swept under the carpet” remark as evidence of systemic failure in addressing issues of discipline and safety among students.
Fadhlina later clarified that her ministry’s top officer had meant to highlight that bullying and sexual harassment cases in schools had long been overlooked.
