MELAKA — The random police visits to schools launched today across Melaka are not meant to take over the role of schools but serve as a supportive measure to ensure a safer and more controlled learning environment.

State police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said that although the crime index involving school students aged 13 to 17 has shown a decline compared to 2024, the spot check will continue as an added effort to curb student-related crime.

He said the spot checks, involving all 336 schools in the state, will be conducted continuously by district police and the Criminal Investigation Department teams.

“These visits are not merely about enforcement but also focus on prevention and education.

“During today’s inspection, we found students bringing playing cards and mobile phones,” he told reporters after conducting a spot check at a school in Bukit Baharu here.

On crime cases involving students, Dzulkhairi said that 12 cases were recorded under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape-related offences from January to September this year.

“Meanwhile, two cases under Section 302 of the Penal Code were recorded in Melaka Tengah and Jasin during the same period, while 18 cases were recorded under Sections 324, 325 and 326 for voluntarily causing hurt using weapons or dangerous objects.

“For property-related offences, five cases were recorded under Sections 381, 380 and 379 for theft in buildings, while 18 cases were recorded under Section 379A for the theft of motor vehicles or their components,” he said, adding that 16 cases were recorded under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
