KUALA LUMPUR — The police said today that about 700 people gathered peacefully outside the Icon building here this afternoon to protest against US President Donald Trump’s visit to Malaysia.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Lazim Ismail said the demonstration, which took place from 2pm to 4pm, was monitored by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
“The assembly was held peacefully. No untoward incidents occurred,” he said in press statement.
A total of 488 personnel — comprising 18 officers and 470 members — were deployed to maintain order throughout the event.
Demonstrators, including pro-Palestine groups and opposition figures, gathered to express opposition to US policies on Gaza and Washington’s support for Israel.
