SINGAPORE — The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said today that it was informed of a collision between a Singapore-registered container vessel, Wan Hai A17, and a Chinese-registered vessel, Hai Li 5, in waters off Guangzhou, China.

In a press statement, MPA said the incident took place on October 25 at about 8pm Singapore time.

It said that according to shipping company Wan Hai Lines, the Wan Hai A17 remains stable, with no injuries reported among its 23 crew members and no signs of pollution.

The Hai Li 5 was reported to have sunk following the collision.

Chinese authorities have launched search and rescue operations, with two of the vessel’s 15 crew members still missing.

MPA said the Wan Hai A17 is being held in port to assist the Chinese authorities in their investigations.

The authority added that it remains in contact with Wan Hai Lines and the Chinese authorities to provide assistance where necessary, and will also be conducting its own investigation into the incident.
