Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres for his peacekeeping efforts over the years.

KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres for his peacekeeping efforts over the years. 

Anwar expressed this during his opening remarks at the 15th Asean-UN Summit which is currently taking place at KLCC i conjunction with the 47th Asean Summit. 

He lauded Guterres for his persistence and courage in defending multilateral arrangements while also defending freedom and respecting rights of countries and minorities. 

“We admire your tenacity and courage including in some impactable cases like the atrocities committed in Gaza. 

“And you have been very consistent in being the voice of reason and voice of conscience. 

“So, thank you very much,” Anwar said. 

Since taking office in January 2017, Guterres has been vocal on issues relating to climate change, humanitarian crises, and peace diplomacy.
