KUALA LUMPUR  — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has urged Malaysians, including those in the Klang Valley, to take extra precautions as thunderstorms and heavy rain sweep across several states this evening.

The thunderstorm warning, issued at 5.30pm, remains in effect until 9pm and covers large parts of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Residents in Kuala Lumpur, Gombak, Hulu Langat and surrounding districts are advised to expect strong winds, lightning and heavy downpours.

The department said rainfall intensity could exceed 20 millimetres per hour and persist for over an hour in some areas, potentially causing flash floods.
