SINGAPORE, Nov 4 — Singapore’s National Parks Board (NParks) is investigating the death of a pet dog that was allegedly left unattended at a grooming facility along Tanjong Katong Road last week.

NParks group director of enforcement and investigation Jessica Kwok said the agency is looking into the case and will take stern action if negligence is found, CNA reported.

Police confirmed that a report had been lodged over the incident.

The dog’s owner, 27-year-old trainee lawyer Tanya Dhillon, said her standard poodle named Buddy was sent to a pet groomer for routine care last Thursday but was left unsupervised in a cage.

Closed-circuit television footage she shared online showed the dog struggling, panting and barking in distress for about 12 minutes before collapsing.

The outlet’s staff reportedly discovered Buddy unresponsive at about 10.33am and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before sending him to a veterinarian, where he was pronounced dead.

Dhillon said her family has sent Buddy’s body to the Animal and Veterinary Service under NParks for an autopsy, as they seek answers on how long he was left alone and the cause of his death.

The grooming facility said it was “heartbroken” over the incident, describing Buddy as a regular client for four years and maintaining that every dog is treated with “love, respect, and attention.”

The company added that it is fully cooperating with the authorities and urged the public to show “kindness and understanding” as investigations continue.
