Gombak police said a 23-year-old man was allegedly conned out of RM9,000 after a woman he met on a dating app threatened to leak his nude video.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — A 23-year-old man has reportedly been left RM9,000 poorer after a steamy video chat with a woman he met online turned into a nightmare blackmail plot.

The victim, who met the woman on the dating app Tantan, thought he’d found a romantic connection when they moved their chats to WeChat. But things quickly took a darker turn.

According to Berita Harian, Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir saidthe woman suggested a video call — and convinced the man to strip during the intimate session.

Soon after, the flirtation soured. The woman began sending threatening WhatsApp messages, warning she would leak his nude video unless he paid up.

Terrified, the victim transferred RM9,000 in two payments to a digital bank account — only to realise he’d been scammed.

The national daily said police are now tracking down the account holder and the number used to contact him.

“Investigations are ongoing to identify the suspect behind the digital bank account and phone number,” said Noor Ariffin.

Authorities are warning others to be cautious when engaging with strangers online — especially those who turn on the charm a little too quickly.
