Malaysian men's doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik fell short in their quest to end a 12-year home title drought at the 2026 Malaysia Open. Facing the South Korean world No. 1s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, the Malaysians lost in a thrilling three-set encounter (21-15, 12-21, 21-18) at the Axiata Arena. Despite a dominant second set where they forced a decider, unforced errors in the final minutes allowed the Koreans to seal the victory.
The loss extends Malaysia's long wait for a home men's doubles champion, with the last victory dating back to 2014. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who watched the match live alongside the Sultan of Pahang, praised the duo's fighting spirit and presented the medals. Aaron and Wooi Yik took home USD 50,750 as runners-up, but expressed disappointment at missing out on their first Super 1000 title at home.
