The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Accountability Authority (UAEAA) in Abu Dhabi today. The agreement, signed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, aims to enhance bilateral cooperation in combating financial crimes, promoting transparency, and sharing expertise in forensic accounting.
This partnership is part of Malaysia’s broader strategy to align its anti-corruption frameworks with international best practices. Both nations have committed to a more seamless exchange of information regarding cross-border money laundering and asset recovery. This is particularly relevant as Malaysia continues to track down billions in lost investment funds from previous scandals.
The UAEAA Chairman, Humaid Obaid Abu Shibs, expressed his commitment to supporting Malaysia’s efforts in good governance. This agreement is expected to lead to joint training programs for investigators and the implementation of advanced digital tools to track illicit financial flows. The pact is seen as a major win for the "Madani" government’s integrity agenda.
